O oficio dos oleiros
consiste en facer con barro olas, xerras, cuncas, pratos, tarteiras, pucheiros...
Normalmente o propio oleiro realiza todo o proceso produtivo, desde a
extracción da materia prima na barreira ata a comercialización nas feiras.
O taller instálase nunha dependencia a carón da casa ou na mesma cociña, sempre co forno na proximidade inmediata. A preparación da vasilla faise no torno. O tipo máis frecuente é o torno alto que se impulsa co pé, aínda que tamén se utiliza o torno baixo manual nalgunhas zonas como Gundivós, onde o traballo adoitaba ser feito polas mulleres.
The pottery trade involves making pots, jugs, cups, plates, dishes, pitchers ... out of clay. Normally the potter himself carries out the whole production process, from raw material extraction to the market and fair sales.
The workshop is installed in a unit next to the house or in the very kitchen, always with the furnace in the immediate vicinity. The preparation of the piece is done at the wheel. The most common way is with the high wheel which is driven around using the foot although the manual low wheel is also used in some areas like Gundivós, where the work was often done by women.
